What’s it like to work here? I never thought that I would stay working for one company for more than a few years as in my mind a role would lose excitement and it means that I was becoming stagnant. I was wrong, I love being part of the Jacksons team, everyone is friendly, and I still find it as exciting as the day I started. IT Manager - Robert Name: Robert Parsons (Started in 1977) Why did you decide to join Jacksons? My initial career was with a firm of local accountants, however I very quickly decided that was not a career that I wanted to pursue. Jacksons was a local family run business and very much smaller than it is today. My initial role was ‘Buying Office Assistant’, it was very interesting and I was impressed by the momentum at which the business was expanding. Ian Jackson who founded the business with his father back in 1947 was completely focused on driving the business forward. He decided to invest in various management and business training courses for me and I quickly moved into running the computer systems, including various project work around Accounting, Stock Control, Credit Control, Marketing and Websites. Can you describe your role? My role has always been very interesting and varied and I currently head up the companies IT functions, including Infrastructure, IT Strategy and security, Business Systems, and Data Management. What do you enjoy about the role and how does it impact customers? I enjoy the many challenges and working with the internal IT team and my colleagues across the company. I also enjoy working with and managing many of our systems’ suppliers. What’s it like to work here? I have always enjoyed my varied job role and have been supported by the business, because it is still family run you are respected as an individual and that works for me.
