Overview MCD Systems is a Teesside-based digital consultancy building enterprise-grade platforms for clients in maritime, insurance and energy. We're looking for a junior developer to support delivery of a new AI-powered platform, working within MCD's engineering team on a live product build rather than an internal training exercise. This is a great fit for someone early in their career who wants real, hands-on exposure to an AI product as it's built, working alongside a dedicated AI/ML engineer and MCD's existing development team. The Role This is a full-stack and data-engineering support role, covering integration work, dashboards, testing and general delivery support across the project. You'll work under senior guidance from an AI/ML engineer, so you'll get direct exposure to how a predictive AI product is actually built, tested and shipped, not just the parts a junior developer usually sees. It's a small team, so you'll talk directly to stakeholders rather than working several layers removed from the people using what you build. As the project matures you'll pick up more responsibility, including user testing and security audit preparation in later phases. Key Responsibilities Supporting the build of data ingestion pipelines and integration API layers under senior guidance. Building and maintaining dashboards and reporting views for predictive risk and competency data. Writing and maintaining automated tests to support quality gates ahead of each delivery milestone. Assisting with UX research and prototyping, working with maritime fleet operator users. General full-stack development support across the platform as needed. Taking part in user testing and security audit preparation in later project phases. What You'll Bring Some commercial or project-based software development experience: an internship, placement, junior role, or a strong portfolio of personal projects. Familiarity with at least one modern web or backend stack. Willingness to learn AI/ML-adjacent tooling and data engineering practices. Good communication skills. This is a small team, and everyone talks directly to stakeholders. A genuine interest in AI and data-driven products. What We Offer At MCD Systems, we believe in fostering a supportive and innovative environment where creativity and collaboration thrive. You'll be working on a live AI product from your first week, not shadowing on legacy maintenance. We're committed to the personal and professional growth of our team, with direct mentoring from a senior AI/ML engineer and exposure to real client stakeholders as standard, not something you have to wait years for.
